Homeowner FAQs

Q: Why would I hire an out of town contractor?

A: You could save as much as 30% on your project! Price differences for top notch contractors in different areas can be significant!

Q: How do I find out about the contractor's work and reputation?

A: Each Fixitupforless.com contractor member is screened and rated. Ratings are compiled from postings of customers for whom they have completed work. You can view their Fixitupforless.com rating and posted comments. The contractor also may be a member or have referrals from professional organizations, business bureaus and/or rating sites. All of their accreditations, memberships, and customer testimonials can be found on their profile page. Top quality, great business ethics and customer service are present in all areas of the U.S. and in many cases for much less!

Q: Why do I have to post (or copy) a description of our project from a local contractor?

A: Your Fixitupforless.com member will need to know the scope of the work to give you a price. As he/she is not in your area, they will rely on this description to price your project.

Q: Why do I have to post the local prices for my project?

A: Your Fixitupforless.com contractor will be making a business analysis of your project. He/she will need to factor travel and other costs associated with your project to determine if they can save you money.

Q: If I post my price how do I know I'm getting the best price from the Fixitupforless.com contractor?

A: Your project will be available to all our Fixitupforless.com contractors to price. They will be bidding against each other as well as your local contractor. You will be able to review all prices and profiles before you make your decision.

Q: Why do I have to put a deposit down at purchase?

A: Your Fixitupforless.com contractor is traveling a great distance to work for you. He/she will need to be assured you are going to do your project. Your deposit will be placed in an escrow account until your Fixitupforless.com contractor arrives to start work (deposit refunds will be subject to your agreement with your contractor).

Q: If I need to, how do I finance my project?

A: Fixitupforless.com has several options. Once you enter your project information and/or select your contractor you will be linked to our preferred lenders.

Q: Since the Fixitupforless.com contractor is coming from out of town, who is responsible for permits and other local requirements?

A: Your contractor can arrange to handle this but it should be stipulated in your agreement with them.

Q: What if the contractor doesn't arrive as agreed?

A: Each Fixitupforless.com contractor will be required to purchase an appearance bond. If they don't appear as agreed, your deposit will be returned plus interest. The Contractor's rating will be lowered and their Fixitupforless.com membership may be terminated.

Q: What if I change my mind about my project?

A: The agreement with your contractor will detail cancellation charges. Typically you forfeit your deposit.

Q: What about warranty issues?

A: Fixitupforless.com Contractor members will have access to warranty services through a national warranty service corporation. Your agreement will detail the extent of the warranty services offered. Their cost should be factored into the contractor's price.

Q: What if I'm not happy with the contractor?

Your Agreement with the contractor will spell out your legal options. You can rate the contractor and post your experience on Fixitupforless.com for others to see.
